Domestic Terrorism Threat: New York Al-Qaeda Sympathizer Wanted to Attack US Military Personnel in US

  • 27 years old
  • born in the Dominican Republic
  • came to the US when he was eight years old
    • spent 19 years living in America
  • converted to Islam and changed his name to Muhammed Yusef
  • unemployed, divorced and living in New York City
  • spent most of his time on the internet on radical extremist Islamic websites
  • inspired by al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki
  • wanted to change his name to Osama Hussein to celebrate his heroes Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein
  • followed instructions in the al-Qaeda “Inspire” magazine article entitled: “How to Build a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom”
  • purchased parts for his bombs at a Home Depot in the Bronx and at a 99-cent store in Manhattan
  • planned “to build a bomb and use a bomb to assassinate U.S. servicemen and women returning from active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
  • also planned to kill police officers
  • he would show “there was mujahedeen in the city ready to fight jihad here.”
  • his uncle Luis Severino whom Pimento moved in with two years ago after getting a divorce:  “I don’t know anything. The only change I noticed in him is that he started following the Muslim religion.”
